"What Once Was" ft Alysha (Single, May 8th, 2020)

Review of "What Once Was" ft Alysha (Single) by THUDD

Drawing upon self proclaimed inspiration from a variety of artists such as Volbeat, Within Tempation, and Arctic Monkeys, THUDD, the young rock act out of Brighton, UK, have taken to releasing what quickly will become an anthem track, with “What Once Was”, suited for heavy music lovers far and wide.

What Once Was” Feat. Alysha takes the listener on a journey of reclaiming and re-discovering the full potential within after pulling themselves away from a negative relationship. Although the listener isn’t filled in on the whole backstory, the true emotion and sonic push embedded in the underlying guitar tempo invigorates the piece from the core upon reaching the chorus.

"You took my strength, took my ambition,
Every night all I could do was listen
As you twisted my words and made me out the bad guy
Took me a while to realize I was wrong
It was a matter of time till the feelings were gone
I needed help to remember the things that made me stronger
"

-Excerpt from “What Once Was

Compared to their debut single, “Armageddon”, some surprise highlights lie within this piece, one of which comes immediately following the initial chorus, when rising feature artist, Alysha confidently reigns in the second solo verse. The second is the musical prowess and variety displayed in the bridge - both solo guitar and violin/synth work can be applauded for once again the very riffy and classic/anthem-rock vibes.

Rapidly gaining traction in the UK scene, THUDD, looks to continue their upward trajectory in the coming months as they forge ahead with new music. We will say that if their next work is anywhere near as good as these two pieces have been, there is a bright future in this hard rock genre for them and we look forward to it! Definitely make sure to keep an eye out for them and let them know what you think of their latest uplifting gem “What Once Was” feat. Alysha - out everywhere you listen to music! - Nic B
