Review of ‘You’ll Be Gone Forever’ (EP, Sept 4th, 2020) by Marked;Life

“…I just want to have the band who want to have the voice for people who don’t feel like they can have the voice…” - Sam Laponis - Vocalist (The Dear Untitled Podcast Ep #13)

Dominated by wild energy and frantic crescendos, the Progressive Nu-Metal act, Marked;Life, has unveiled their brand new EP, ‘You’ll Be Gone Forever’ (Sept 4th, 2020) - a quad track release full of fury and artistic liberties. Unleashing their imprint on listener’s eardrums as their name implies, Marked;Life, encapsulates their bottled rage and takes no prisoners on this journey of metal gymnastics ahead.

Breaching the silence with “Perry Ln”, haunting tones are cut short by the blistering vocals of Laponis. Raw and discomforting screams lace the dissonant instrumentals as a swirling din of cackling laughter seamlessly introduces “Saferoom”, and the insanity which follows. Previous debut singles, “Loner Wolf” and “Just Deaf”, aided listeners in understanding splattered tempo changes with unchecked aggression that is present through this act’s collection, however, the vigor and ferocity of “Saferoom” still catches ears by surprise. Built as a darkened track, the eerie, frenetic visuals which accommodate the audio portray a severe desperation and lunacy, executed perfectly by Marked;Life.

Reviving a moody, atmospheric aura in “Pitch Black”, the mysticism of Marked;Life’s curdling sounds drives ahead. The hidden beauty of Laponis’ cleanly sung moments adds to the unsettling dynamic as we struggle to recall hearing anything but vehement rage flow from his tone before. Acting as another layer in the gorgeous and fractured composition Marked;Life has built, this speaks volumes to the talent locked within the group. Echoed in the choral foreground of the wafting finale, "Alone Art”, Laponis and Co confirm their flexibility to finesse sound to become a seductive landscape of bipolar creativity and manipulation.

Inspired by internalized pain and emotion, ‘You’ll Be Gone Forever’ (EP- Sept 4th, 2020) exceeds any prior expectations set for Marked;Life, seizing the key to unbridled, expressive artistry. Be sure to take a listen and prepare for twelve chaotic minutes of passionate angst - out now everywhere, via We Are Triumphant. - Nic B
