Review of “Hopes” by Yellow Pages (Single Release, Nov 13th, 2020)

Following their 2019 track, Daemon, Yellow Pages, the rising Swedish, post-hardcore act, release a very transparent and vulnerable sophomore single titled, “Hopes”.

Opening with an early 2000’s muffled guitar tone, Yellow Pages, once again builds into the latest single with an unfettered vigor. Momentarily channeling some stylistically lighter, All Time Low / Yellowcard sonics, Timmy Alvelöv (unclean vocalist) shatters the this unique, “neon vibe” trance, as the song begins, grabbing the listener’s ear from the start. Bouncing immediately into Zeke Lugmair’s (Clean vocals) tag-team discourse, “Hopes” finds itself on incredibly stable footing for such a young act. The revolving emotion embedded within the vocal balance and lyrical play truly places Yellow Pages on a exceptional level with regards to their musical maturity, following the footsteps of acts such as The Motion Below, and XIII Weeks, to name a few. Poignant lyrics, spoken from a place of genuine honesty and longing for mutual acknowledgement, drive the bulk of this track home and to heart, boosted by the underlying and aggressive instrumentals.

Hopes is about the fragility of a new relationship. Although you are filled with hope, knowing that it could be all you've ever wanted, you also know that it could all be lost in the blink of an eye.” - Yellow Pages

As we reflect on the act’s debut single, Daemon, to the present track, “Hopes”, Yellow Pages has matured in both production and accessibility in their sound. Sure, "Daemon” 100% had its serene moments meshed among what we now know to be the ‘Yellow Pages Sound’, however there were some rocky edges at first go. “Hopes” is undoubtedly the next step in the rapid evolution of this project and fans can only hope that there is more content not too far behind, so that the band gains the traction they rightfully deserve!

That being said, as of this moment, we are putting these singles on play: back to back on repeat, in our headphones (don’t text plz). Just go spin them yourself and discover a the magnificent noise of Yellow Pages that is about to embrace your eardrums. Thank us later…- Nic B
