The Philly music scene is so diverse; from genres, to venues, to downright cool bands, this area has it all. One local band that has been on heavy rotation lately has been the pop-punk band Goalkeeper. Over the past few months we’ve seen the members of Goalkeeper at their EP Release at Creep Records, a Halo video game day, and most recently live at a radio studio.

Earlier this month we had the awesome opportunity to attend Goalkeeper’s Radio 104.5 Live at 5. For those who aren’t familiar, each Friday at 5 PM Radio 104.5 invites a local band to perform two songs, a cover and an original, live on air. We were so stoked when we were offered two spots in the audience for such a unique event. This was Goalkeeper’s first time playing live on the radio, and without a doubt we can definitely say they nailed it. Their live radio debut started out strong with a fantastic acoustic cover of AJR’s “100 Bad Days.” With smooth vocals and clean guitar, it’s safe to say that we loved their acoustic take on this song.

Between songs, Goalkeeper filled us in on why they chose to perform this cover, and how it ties in to their latest EP “Bad Times Don’t Last” we all have bad days, but it gets better.

To round out this live session, Goalkeeper performed one of their newest songs, “Sunshine.” (Watch video here!)

This song was the perfect way to end the radio session and truly embodies the theme carried out by the name of their EP. A nice contrast to their slower-paced cover, “Sunshine” kicks it up a notch with an upbeat tempo and soul-filled vocals. While it’s (not) always sunny in Philadelphia, Goalkeeper was definitely able to put some sunshine on our cloudy (and rainy) day. If you haven’t checked out this local band yet, we highly suggest tuning in and give a listen to their newest EP “Bad Times Don’t Last. - Nic B.
